Vows are not really vows at all. For the
simple reason that they don't include any overt

said them, you are legally married.
Nonetheless, this declaration, sometimes explained
at a contractual statement, includes 3 words that
say everything without making a single promise.
Take
The
As in "I,
[Full Name] take
you
[Full Name] ...."
Take is an
active verb, an action
you initiate. So saying
I take you confirms
your free and willing consent to the marriage. It
also clearly establishes your personal
responsibility for your choice.
Lawful
The
"... to be my lawful ..."
confirms that you understand that from then on your
partner will be your legal or legitimate
spouse because you were united in a legal
marriage.
Wedded
The
"Wedded" means married - and "Wedded
wife/husband/spouse/partner in marriage" leaves no
doubt about the relationship.

wedded in a wider
sense, which is also applicable -
joined,
connected, united. So it tells the world that
you freely unite yourself to your partner for life.
