Weddings are a hive of superstition, though we rarely
call them that! Many of the almost universally
unquestioningly embraced "traditions" have their roots
in superstitions that are either transactional
(something that you do to ensure a happy marriage) or
preventative (if you do this then that bad thing won't
happen). Trust me. You are safe to ignore both, or at
least to include but without the anxiety that usually
accompanies a superstition.
